Muck Boy Report -
We finally got out for the first time this morning. The boat ran
well after a long winters nap and we are ready for the season. For
our first trip this year we brought along a couple of the youngest
crew members and they had a great time for the most part, but when
the fishing slowed downed they did get a little bored - thank goodness
for smart phones and games.
We went 4 for 4, 2 Coho's, 1 King, and 1 Lake Trout. We did not
find a consistant set up, taking all 4 on different sep-ups, 3 on
spoons off the riggers from 15 to 60 feet down and 1 on a dipsy
set 110 feet back, our best depth was 125 to 140 feet of water.
Of course the most fun was when the oldest of the young crew members
got to reel in his first salmon. He did say it was a little harder
than the pan fish he has been practicing on. |

Muck Boy Report -
After a strong blow the last few days we seen an opportunity to get
out this morning for a few hours to chase down some of those 4 year
old kings. We hit the water well before day break, setting lines with
glow plugs as soon as we broke the pier head and set course south.
We marked plenty of fish but had no takers in the 20 to 30 foot of
water range. We trolled south and north of the pier heads and our
best depth was 55 feet and we managed to go 1 for 2 losing a 20lb+
fish about 10 foot from the net. The fish we took came on a Dreamweaver
Glow Frog mag spoon down 38 feet and the one we lost came on a small
Silver Horde #000541
down 41 feet, and that was it. Hope to be back on the water next weekend. |

Muck Boy Report "It's
still an early bite!" and we are stuck on 3, 3 fish
a trip that is. We started setting setting lines before 6am and had
the 2 larger fish in the picture in the boat before 7am and the little
fella came at about 8am.
Everything came off white Spin
Doctors, blue and double pearl glow were the best tapes with various
flies set down any were from 64 to 80 feet, between 100 and 165 fow,
straight out from the pier heads. |

July-21st -
Muck
Boy Report "It's
an early bite!" That was the consensus at the cleaning
station today. Everyone basically had the same story, the bite was
fast and furious from the time lines were set until about 7am and
then the bites were few and far between.
Luckily our lines were set by 6:30 and we went 3 for 4, 3 kings and
a lake trout. We were is 80 fow, the first and largest king came on
a Dreamweaver
Magnum spoon green glow frog off a rigger set 45 ft down, the second
king came on a mono dipsey with a blue fish catcher and a white fly
set 140' back and the lake trout came off the same setup as the first
king. The one that got away was on a Dreamweaver
Magnum spoon glow
Firefly. Fished until 10:30 when, fighting the building waves and
the lack of a bite seemed to be the best thing to do.
There's always next weekend. |

July-14 & 15th -
Muck
Boy Report Back
after the big ones this weekend. Started out Saturday morning a
little north of the pier in 60 fow and found our best bite at 80',
set lines down any where from 42 to 46'. Took a real nice king (about
18#) on a wire line dipsey setup with a Dreamweaver Firefly magnum
spoon - 150' back. Took another king on the same lure down 44' off
one of the center riggers. Took a steelhead on a dipsey set 180'
back on a Magnum Bloody Nose. The other steelhead came on a free
slider standard brass spoon with orange tape with the main line
down 44'. For the day we went 4 for 7 and we had to leave the water
by 10am for some family activities.
On
Sunday we had hoped for the same great weather as there was on Saturday,
but this was not to be. When we hit the lake there was a good 2'
foot chop and we headed out to 70 FOW. Took our first king on a
Firefly
magnum spoon down 44' and no sooner had we cleaned
the deck after that fight and the other center rigger went off and
we took a larger king on a Silver Streak Hot Lobster down 46'. By
this time there were 3 foot waves and on to many occasions at least
a 4' roller. Time to go!
All
and all a Good Weekend, wish we could have fished longer. The fish
are here and its time to get out and catch a few, when the waves
permit. |

Bud's
Report - The
summer steelhead run has been going for about 3 weeks. I went 2 times
this week, using shrimp off of bobbers. Lots of fun I have broke off
6 or seven times, as steelhead do a lot of jumping. Monday we were
5 for 12 and Friday 6 for 11. I also hear that boats
are also doing well |

Muck
Boy Report - Our plan was to
fish both Saturday and Sunday but the early morning rains on Saturday
dampened those plans. We did find out that some fished, but from
the looks of the radar we decided we would be better yo catch up
on some chores that were also on the agenda for the weekend.
We did get out Sunday and found the fish to be scattered and tight
lipped, at least for us. We started fishing in 80 feet of water
straight out and during our search worked out as far as 130 feet,
looking for those active fish. The only fish we managed to pick
up was a nice 8 lb king in 85 feet of water 38 foot down on a Silver
Streak, standard size Blue Chilly Willy spoon, while we were trolling
into 50 feet to see if there was some active fish in close. We did
mark some good fish but had no takers.
Take a look at the picture to the right, of a jumbo perch that
a fellow fisherman brought into the Macatawa cleaning station. They
had been fishing south down by Saugatuck and
took a nice mess including this 14 1/4 inch jumbo. Thanks Guys |

Report - Started in about 80 foot of
water and our first fish came on a white paddle 70 feet down in 85
feet of water. We picked up 6 more as we went out to 160 feet of water,
2 were steelhead 1 lake trout and the rest were kings most came on
spoons with lemon ice and blue dolphin being the best. |

May-5th-12 -
Muck
Boy Report - Took our Lake Michigan
shake down cruise this morning. The weather was questionable when
we left the launch with 2 to 4 foot waves predicted but the waves
never got over 2 feet, it did rain a bit and a larger front that moved
across the lake pushed a lot of boats off the lake at 10:00 am, including
us. The boat ran great and there was only a couple of house keeping
items we had to fix. Fishing was a litlle slow for us until 9:30 am
when we boated 3 fish within 20 minutes. They all came in about 120
feet of water on riggers, the first was an 8 lb king on a standard
Blue Dolphin spoon down 72 feet, the 6 lb king came on a magnum Green
Chilly Willy down 90 feet and a small coho came on a free slider with
the main line down 90 feet on a brass and orange taped standard spoon.
The real story is we should have stayed at the pier head, the boats
that fished there, trolling back and forth, did real well, one boat
had 10 fish and another had 7 and some of the kings were close to
20 lbs and most were taken on spoons. |

Muck
Boy Report - Fished about 1
1/2 hours this past Saturday before a strong wind line blew across
lake Michigan. It could have been worse - I am sure the boats that
stayed out north of here must of really had a fight with the strong
thunder storms that came along with the wind.
We did manage one nice 10 lb. King on a Moonshine
Glow Bloody Nose Plug fished 52 feet down over 80 feet of water.

Muck
Boy Report - Made it back out
this morning to try and get into some of these 4 year old King Salmon.
We were setting lines straight out in 80 feet of water in a 1 to 2
foot chop at about 6:15am. Our first set up of glow magnum spoons
set between 55 and 65 feet down didn't do anything so when there was
a little more light we changed the 2 center riggers over to White
Spin
Doctors and Green Flies down 72 and
75 feet. It was bang bang the first a king about 14 lbs. and the other
shook the hook after a short fight.
See that happy fella on the right, he wasn't to happy about 7:30 as
he had turned a little green in the 2 footers so we had to call it
a day.
Sure was glad he got to get out to see his first king taken. I am
sure it won't be his last. |

Muck
Boy Report - Hit the water early
again today (before daylight) and this time it was worth it. We started
setting lines in the dark in 70 feet of water, just north of the pier,
with glow spoons on the downriggers, setting them between 35 and 45
feet down, the first small king came on a magnum Moonshine Moonshine
spoon set 41 feet down, the next hit came on a magnum Firefly Dreamweaver
spoon set 38 feet down. but this one broke off. The mono dipseys
were going this morning, our best set up was a Mountain Dew Spin
Doctor, with a Catch A Bunch
Big Winnie fly that we modified by replacing the single blood
red hooks with one blood red treble set 130 feet back , this rig accounted
for 2 more kings, we had the other set up go with the fish taking
out more the 50 feet of line before getting off. Our last fish a nice
9 pound laker took a white Spin
Doctor we call Oil Slick with a Last Supper Rapture
Fly also modified with a blood red treble, set 55 down on one
of the center downriggers. We also lost another laker on this same
setup just before it got to the net. For the morning we were 4 for
7, with our most productive depth being 95 feet on a south troll.
All and all one nice day on the water, other than having to dodge
the rain. |

6th-2011 - Brad's
Report - The
fishing seems to be picking up slightly as we
caught six fish Saturday. No four year olds however, four small salmon
a steelhead and a lake trout. We had our best luck in 85 FOW between
Holland and Saugatuck. Green spoons, both regular and magnum sized
were the best. We caught fish on 200 and 300 copper, dispeys back
110 ft and a rigger down 25. |

July-30th 2011-
Muck
Boy Report - Hit the water earlier
today, having our lines set a little after 6:00am. Only to find that
the fish were still not hitting. Marked quite a few as we trolled.
We fished water any where from 70 to 125 feet and setting and adjusting
lines up and down from 35 to 75 feet down throughout the morning.
Finally at 9:30 we took a nice trout on a Spin Dr and Fly back 180
feet, in front of Saugatuck in 80 feet of water. A few minutes later
we spotted a trolling board just floating with no boats any where
around it, so with fishing being so slow we turned the boat and managed
to net it after a long slow turn. We not only retrieved the board
and about 300 yards of copper line - but also a 12 lb king which had
a little fight left but not much. If the weather holds we will be
back out next weekend searching for those 4 year old kings. Maybe
everyone will have better luck next weekend. |

Muck
Boy Report - Started to fish
for salmon this weekend after a brief absence. Saturday we watched
rain and storms cross the big lake at 4:30am by 5:30 we though they
had cleared enough to give it a try. After a short drive to the launch
some others told us that the waves were breaking over the piers. END
OF DAY ONE.
Sunday - there was once again showers on the west shore of the lake
but the radar looked as they would swing south and north. We were
on the water by 6:30am with friends Chad and Collin. It took no time
at all to hook a steelhead who jumped out of the water twice and spit
the hook. Trolled all the way to Saugatuck fishing in waters from
70 to 110 feet deep, but no takers. At about 10:00am a report came
over the marine radio of a large front pushing across the lake , that's
when one of the full cores went and we reeled in a nice 3lb steelie. |

May-21-11 - This
was our shake down trip and all systems are go, the boat is running
great and we get to put our new Ugly
Stick Trolling & Diver Rods to use even though they didn't
see any action we really like the feel of these new sticks. Reports
from earlier in the week was that most boats had been doing well from
this port. But these reports didn't help us as we had another rough
start to our Great Lakes fishing season. We didn't even have a bump,
we did mark quite a few fish south of the piers about half way to
Saugatuck. We fished from 70 to 90 feet of water. Later in the morning,
we did pick up some information that the boats fishing deeper (115
to 165 feet of water) were picking up a few fish. But by this time
we had to leave the lake for Saturday Soccer Games. We will be back
next week to see if we can get into them. |
