Byron Muck Hunters
Useful Information:
Maps: Byron Michigan,
Meet the Byron Muck Hunters : We live in Byron, MI. and our crew consists of the three hunters. We are solely devoted to Duck and Goose Hunting. Whether it is by land or water we go after it 100% and give it everything we have.  We mainly hunt in the Shiawassee and Genesee Counties of Michigan. We also frequent the Shiawassee State Game Area in St. Charles and Crow Island in Saginaw, with the occasional visit to Maple River a few times a year. We like sharing some of our information with other hunters in hopes of bringing bigger and better bag limits for everyone! This year we are going to report on the Muck-Boy crew's website after every hunt and let you know where we stand and how the flights of birds are looking through each week.

Good Luck to everyone out there this season. We are all hoping for the best!!!

Nov -24th -2011 - Been a slow year for the BMH crew with low numbers and mild weekend weather throughout the season. We finally got into them today with the opener of the late goose season and took an 8 man limit of honkers and a few mallards to boot. Hunted Shiawassee last weekend and as far as we can tell between this weekend and last the migrators are here. Now some ice up of the local holes and small ponds would be ideal to kick the remainder of the season in the tail. The birds are here but can be tough to hunt without some nasty weather, the next week is looking promising for us all. Good luck the next few weeks!

Nov -25th & 26th -2010 - We hit it hard Turkey Day and Black Friday. With the colder temps and nasty weather we recently had we really expected some good hunts this week. Turkey Day we shot two Greenheads and that was it! We had question marks hanging over our heads after the hunt wondering where were the birds? SO we headed up to the SRSGA Friday morning almost knowing we were in for some good action. We also drew 3rd out of only 20 parties and took zone 34. We seen around 20 birds at first light and took 1 Gaddy for the morning and of course seen many geese flying and wanting into our duck spread. We decided to head home grab a quick lunch and head out early for a afternoon hunt at one of our local spots. Seen 6, with one greenhead landing in our spread as we were setting up, just a teaser I guess. We are depressed this weekend, but the birds are just not here but we know they are to be here any day and they have not just pushed through. I have seen good reports and bad this weekend and anyone who has said they have pushed through just don't know ducks. They are on the way and as usual the last week of the season will be a good one. I really hope everyone is out there shooting limits and limits of birds this weekend!!!

Nov -16-10 - Couple of the guys from our crew headed to St. Charles this past Sunday. They took a decent draw in the 10th spot and drew zone 60. The 50's and 60's have been pretty good this year, and with the numbers up on the refuge. The hunting had been slow and we needed some good weather to get these birds moving and the weather man held true to his end of the deal on Sunday, with cooler temps and a good wind the guys took a total of 9 birds which included one shoveler, 3 drake Teal, and the rest mallards. As usual they had complaints of the skybusten up there. Just something I can't figure out? But it is what it is. Hoping for some good weather this weekend to bust some more birds. Good luck out there Deer Hunten this week!

Nov -06-10 - Spent some quality time scouting this week at a local marsh. Seen a couple hundred mallards leaving, early in the morning and coming back to it in the evening. Our weekend plan was to hunt another area that produces extremely well when the flights move in and let the roost rest. We set up a nice spread this morning with high hopes of the mallards we had seen earlier in the week would be active, only to be greated with flock after flock of Woodies. Took 6 drakes this morning (woodies) and never seen one Mallard fly! Was very discouraged not to be able to work in any Greenheads but happy to motor out with all the Woodies. Just seemed a little backwards if you ask me. Thought we may have shot a Wood duck or two and had a good shoot of Mallards. Haven't seen any new Geese around.

Oct -25-10 - Decided to take a afternoon draw up to St. Charles today with the weather predicting to be mild yet showers and wind. Took 28th in the draw and picked Zone 9. Very few birds seen as the the clouds broke up and the sun poked out raising the temps. There was very little shooting heard as well as very few birds seen, most of the afternoon. Ended the evening with 1 mallard and a few others should had been had but you gotta love the skybusters out here! The last hour and the shooting picked up coming from the 30's mainly, and a good amount from the 50's and 60's. But by far the worst hunt I have ever had at the Shiawassee with the amount of birds seen and shooting heard. Crop cover in our zone was good and water levels were almost right. In need of "COLD" weather and rain to get everything going.
Oct -9th & 10th -2010 Stayed and hunted localy as we do most every year and despite the warm temps we managed to do well. Saturday we took six Wood Ducks and called it a morning and watched football the rest of the day. Sunday we took eleven birds total with a mixed bag of Woodies and Mallards. We tried to stick it out for one more to get the limit but the birds just stopped with the sun and temps rising. Hoping for another hunt this weekend. Good Luck!!!

Oct -3rd -2010 -Scoutied our area this weekend. More corn is coming off and we are seeing more geese flooding the fields. With the recent rains water levels have improved quite nicely. We have been seeing lots of Woodies everywhere, all in all the conditons for the opener are looking really well. Good Luck to everyone this weekend. Hoping for a great opener this weekend!!!

Sept -23rd -2010 - The farmers are getting some of the corn off their fileds and we have some birds feeding in them. The water in our area for the most part is a little low. Hopefully some timely rains will help fill up our holes before the opener..
